EMAIL TO EAST DEVON MP, SIMON JUPP, THIS MORNING…
Dear Simon
I am writing following the government’s announcement to write off £13bn of debt from NHS hospitals.
This looks like excellent news and as you will be aware, Devon is regarded as one of the top two financially challenged health areas in the country, so I hoping that this will mean health trusts here will receive the welcome news that the cuts they are being forced to make by NHS England will now no longer be necessary.
As you know, the NHS in Devon is in serious financial difficulty, with the government requiring our health organisations to save over £400m by 2024. This is after instruction to save a similar sum in previous years, has faltered, despite best efforts.
In normal times these kinds of savings are a grave challenge.
During a time of a health crisis, they are surely virtually impossible to achieve.
Can you please reassure me that the requirement to make these cuts will now no longer be required?
Thank you very much
Claire
