The swansong motion, which will be debated at DCC’s full council meeting tomorrow, is typical of the work that Roger has been doing on both EDDC and DCC over the years – trying to protect the area from over-development and help protect our lovely environment – a big issue for many residents.
The full motion is below:
Strategic planning is a vitally important function for Devon County Council in conjunction with Devon District Councils. It is vitally important to plan to achieve sufficient development to meet projected needs; it is also vitally important to carefully consider constraints to development, and to take into account community desires and aspirations.
The Government`s National Planning Policy Framework more developer-friendly guidance, together with the failure of many District Councils to achieve an adopted Local Plan by the National Planning Policy Framework deadline of 27 March, has created a very worrying situation where inappropriate planning applications may be approved.
This Council therefore agrees (a) to press the Government to extend the period for Local Plan adoption by one year, and (b) to make robust responses to District Council planning applications after careful consideration of the constraints and infrastructure demands, and (c) will re-evaluate strategic development proposals in the light of the latest census population projections which show a lower than anticipated population growth and an apparent over provision of housing.
Anyone who wishes to observe the debate live, from 2.15pm, can do by logging onto DCC’s webcasting facility – link here – http://www.devoncc.public-i.tv/core/
