• Register your interest to improve broadband speeds in West Hill

    11th August 2013 | News | Claire
  • One of the Association’s top priorities is to press for an improvement in broadband speeds in the village. The exchange at Ottery St Mary is scheduled to be connected to the fibre optic network in the future but we don’t have a firm date.

You can help to show BT that we need this urgently by registering your interest. You can do this very simply by going to:
http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ and clicking on the “Register your interest” button (bottom right corner of page).

It doesn’t commit you to anything and you need not be a BT customer. The more people that do this, the higher in the queue the Ottery exchange climbs. Cllr John Harding has organised a similar campaign in Tipton so we are working together.

We are also trying to gather data on current levels of service so that we can argue more strongly for improvements.

It would be a great help if you could check your own speed (http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ is an excellent site) and email details to Peter Lonsdale at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) giving the following information

    Date and time of test
    Download speed
    Upload speed
    Postcode
    Internet Service Provider

This information will be held anonymously.

Finally, you may not know that broadband speed can be seriously affected by conditions inside your home. Two good tips to improve performance are:

? Don’t turn off you router/modem at any time
? Make sure your router/modem is connected to the master socket where the telephone line comes into your house, not an extension socket
