The decision on whether to close Ottery Hospital’s beds will be taken next month – on 16 July, at the governing body meeting of NEW Devon Clinical Clinical Commissioning Group, which starts at 1pm at Newcourt Community centre.

Following the decision to shut all the beds at Torrington Hospital, the NEW Devon Clinical Commissioning Group quickly made a decision to shut around half of North Devon’s community hospital beds – see story here – http://www.northdevonjournal.co.uk/Community-hospital-beds-North-Devon-reduced-40/story-26597927-detail/story.html

I don’t see how North Devon District Hospital or the RD&E can possibly cope under these circumstances when the hospitals have been on black alert many times already this year.

Nor am I remotely convinced, given the worrying patient stories I have seen from Torrington, that patient care won’t be significantly compromised.

The health and wellbeing scrutiny committee meets tomorrow at 10am and it is expected to last all day.

It will be webcast live here – http://www.devoncc.public-i.tv/core/portal/home
