• Potential housing sites at Alfington to be examined

    21st May 2012 | News | Claire
  • 11 sites for potential housing developments at Alfington, have been submitted by landowners.

    The pieces of land are:

    – three sites north west of the Ottery Road (C114, C100, C117)
    – two sites west of Pattison Close (C127 and C116)
    – one site south of Summer Lane (C115)
    – one site to the north and east of Summer Lane (C099)
    – one site to the east of Alfington Farm and Anthony Cottages (C128)
    – one site to the south of Rock House (C014)
    – one large site to the east of Church Lane and to the south of Mill Lane (C028)

There is also a very large piece of land that has been submitted for development at Fenny Bridges (C135)

Alfington has been allocated around five houses until 2026, under East Devon District Council’s Local Plan.

Fenny Bridges does not have a built-up area boundary so only barn conversions and replacement dwellings are likely to be permitted here.  The same applies to the hamlets of Fairmile, Wiggaton and Taleford.

Following this process, EDDC will do some work to assess the suitability of possible sites from a technical perspective, prior to contacting town and parish councils again, in the autumn.

At this stage, town and parish councils will be expected to consult their residents on the best possible site for housing.

I have asked the EDDC strategic planning team to give us as much notice as possible about the consultation time frame, so we can book venues and advertise the events a long time in advance, to ensure as many people who want a say, have a say.

I will be working with Ottery St Mary Town Council on how we best consult residents.
