• My bid for the county!

    5th April 2013 | News | Claire
  • Roger’s decision to retire from Devon County Council’s Ottery Rural ward (he will remain an EDDC councillor for Ottery Town ward), is a huge blow, so in a bid not to let his all excellent work go to waste, I have decided to campaign for his seat.

Roger, who has served on DCC as a committed Independent councillor for 20 years has given me his enthusiastic support and is currently organising my campaign as my election agent, batching up leaflets and taking them to the kind people who said they will help deliver them for me.

I feel slightly like I am currently rushing around randomly in a not very organised fashion, but after the craziness of the “getting sorted bit” it will be all systems go delivering leaflets around the ward and knocking on doors.

A massive THANKS to those residents who are helping post my leaflets through the 5000 letterboxes or so, it is a large ward to get around in a few weeks!

A massive THANKS also to Roger for being such a remarkable and active councillor for 20 years – and for helping me so much with the election.  Whoever gets elected will have a very hard act to follow.

Things might go quiet on my blog for a while but I will post up anything important.

Close of nominations were at noon today and the list of candidates for each ward will be published on Tuesday. I will post this up when available.  The rumours are that each seat is contested by around four candidates … no existing councillor will be re-elected without a fight this time!

The Devon County Council elections are on Thursday 2 May, as well as the Feniton and Buckerell by-election, which is being fought by determined Independent candidate, Susie Bond.

    Back to the campaign!
