The STP is a programme of cuts and centralisation which ministers say must plug the gap of £30bn looming by 2020.

It is ruthless, harsh and devoid of the concept of decent patient care. And it will get worse yet.

As a health scrutiny member we will be examining these plans in detail at our next meeting. I just hope we do a better job of it than we did of the community bed cuts decision yesterday (blog post coming).

You will see from the report below that the wonderful Honiton Maternity Unit is set to be axed, alongside others at Tiverton and Okehampton. A really sad day for me and all local parents.

I stayed at Honiton after I had my daughter in 2003 and then led the campaign alongside fellow mums in 2010 to retain overnight stays there. It was a successful campaign and was a result I was very proud of.

And this is just the second stage (if you count community bed cuts as the first stage).  There will be more to come.
