• Kings School students address Ottery Town Council

  • The year seven students, who attended with their teacher, Jo Elliott, were: Frankie, Tom, Hannah and Lauren and they presented a piece of work (which must have been completed since Thursday’s lesson) about why the cycleway was so important for Ottery.

They said it would help with tourism, fitness and helping children to learn to ride bikes.  They asked for the town council’s support for the campaign.

Mayor, Glyn Dobson, said the town council was very much in favour of the cycleway, that it might be a long-term project but it was really important to be determined and persevere.

I thought that the students gave a mature, informed and thoughtful presentation, showing that they had thought hard about the issues and how the cycleway would benefit Ottery.

It was also evident that some great links are being made between individuals and groups who are also passionate about helping to obtain the funding for the cycleway.

It is really inspiring to see how the students are approaching this project.  I couldn’t watch them present without smiling, as their enthusiasm was infectious!

As the famous anthropologist, Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed it’s the only thing that ever does.”
