• It’s an action packed agenda for EDDC full council next Wednesday

    17th February 2014 | News | Claire
  • Two of the motions are mine and supported by fellow independents. These are:

Lobbying: “Openness and transparency in the planning process is vital. This council therefore agrees to include an item on the agenda of all development management committee and planning inspections committee meetings, requiring members of those committees to declare if and who they have been lobbied by, about items on the agenda.”

Buying land at Skypark: The second motion is to defer the decision to buy land at Skypark for almost £1m, to allow the recommendation from the overview and scrutiny committee on an independent surveyor assessing the Knowle buildings, to be considered – here – http://www.claire-wright.org/index.php/post/motion_to_move_an_independent_survey_of_the_knowle_buildings

Option to move item on buying land at Skypark into private session
Councillors are invited to move this debate into private session, should anyone wish for commercially sensitive issues to be discussed.

I fervently hope that this is not going to be seized on as an excuse to hold the debate without public scrutiny – yet again.

The other motions are on affordable housing and legal highs.

Public speaking at planning committee meetings
Item three on the agenda is about setting up a working group to look at public speaking at planning committee (development management committee) meetings.

You may remember that the planning committee threw out proposed restrictions out at its meeting back in December – link here – http://www.claire-wright.org/index.php/post/motion_to_move_an_independent_survey_of_the_knowle_buildings

Here’s my report on the debate by councillors on public speaking at the development management committee meetings – http://www.claire-wright.org/index.php/post/councillors_throw_out_plans_to_restrict_public_speaking

    Recorded vote on the budget

The budget for 2014/15 will also be debated and agreed, with a number of cuts proposed. The government has now decreed that there must be a recorded vote for budgets, following rules that come into force this week. Perhaps names of renegades will be reported to senior party members and threatened with deselection?

The meeting starts at 6.30pm. The agenda is here – http://www.eastdevon.gov.uk/council_agendas_and_mins.htm ….
