• Future of East Devon to be debated by planning committee

  • The meeting is the next stage in the process of finalising the plan.

Many towns and villages are still unhappy with the levels of development proposed.

A number of groups representing Sidmouth, including the Vision Group, Chamber of Commerce and Sid Vale Association have joined forces and launched a campaign.  They will hold a public meeting at the Pavilion Theatre next Thursday evening at 7pm to discuss plans for the town.

Following the meeting with the Development Management Committee on 8 May, there will be following stages prior to the plan getting submitted to the planning inspector.

Mid May to Mid June – short informal consultation on policy boundaries for towns

•25 July – Final Plan goes to Full Council

•August to September – Consultation on Proposed Submission document. This is a legally required step where the plan is available for anyone to comment

•Late 2012 – the plan and all comments received from the above stage are sent to the national Planning Inspectorate in readiness for examination

•The examination of the plan will be in 2013 and adoption (assuming the plan is found to be sound) will be later in 2013.

The Development Management Committee meeting on Tuesday 8 May starts at 10am and will be held at the Knowle, Sidmouth.
