• Countdown begins for decision on where to build houses

    31st August 2012 | News | Claire
  • Ottery St Mary Town Council has fixed dates for meetings at Alfington, Tipton St John and West Hill, in line with proposals for new housing under East Devon District Council’s draft Local Plan.

    The proposed allocations are:

    Alfington – five houses
Tipton St John – 10 houses
    West Hill – 35 houses

EDDC has proposed that East Devon villages grow by five percent, based on the number of dwellings within built-up area boundaries.

This month (August) a team of people under the banner of the strategic housing land availability assessment (shlaa), have been visiting sites put forward by landowners for development, and giving a view on how suitable they are.

A revised map, showing the results of the assessments will be published prior to the meetings.

Councillors will leaflet residents of West Hill, Tipton St John and Alfington nearer the dates of the meeting with more information, including the results of the land assessments.  Although it is not yet clear when this information will be available.

The dates and times of the meetings are as follows:

    TUESDAY 16TH OCTOBER:    ALFINGTON HALL

FRIDAY 19TH OCTOBER:      WEST HILL VILLAGE HALL

All are to run from 6.30 – 9pm (approx)

Once sites have been selected built-up area boundaries will be redrawn around them.

The planning inspector at the examination in public will make the final decision on the detail of the East Devon Local Plan next spring.
