• Councillors to debate recording meetings next month

    21st October 2012 | News | Claire
  • At the meeting, which will take place on Thursday 22 November, an issue pursued by myself and Roger Giles, will be debated, following a report by an EDDC officer.

A discussion and vote on audio recording meetings will be aired, just one month after doubt was cast on the accuracy of the minutes at a previous overview and scrutiny meeting, relating to East Devon Business Forum.

At a scrutiny meeting earlier this year, a debate took place over the webcasting of meetings, following a motion by Cllr Roger Giles. The concept of webcasting was widely derided by the conservative group as being too expensive.  See blog post of this meeting here

Devon County Council webcasts its meetings, also holding a web archive on its website.  Residents can opt to watch live or view a recording of the meeting at a later date.

At the meeting on 22 November (after some pushing) the audio recording of meetings item is scheduled to be debated.

As usual, members of the public will get chance to give their view on the issue at start of the meeting.

The scrutiny meeting on 22 November starts at 6.30pm and will be held in the council chamber at EDDC’s offices, Knowle, Sidmouth.

A date for the diary perhaps?
