• Almost all MPs contacted on concerns about ‘growth’ bill

  • More than 3,200 CPRE supporters contacted their MP pressing him or her to stop the Government sacrificing the countryside. Incredibly, this led to 96% of all English MPs being contacted about the Government’s proposed Growth and Infrastructure Bill.

This helped us work with MPs from all parties to table amendments at the ‘report stage’ of the Bill on 17 December in the Commons. Although our views were well represented in the debate, the key amendments we supported were opposed by the Government.

However, this is not the end by any means and your emails have been hugely helpful. The Bill moved to the House of Lords yesterday, where we are continuing to press for significant changes to the legislation. The number of you who have written to MPs will strengthen the hands of peers who have concerns about the Bill (we’ve been in contact with a number of them).

And the Bill will return to the Commons in due course.
