  • The EA believes that if no work was done, it would be around 18 months before the rivers converged.

    It is viewed as a temporary solution, to avoid the bridge being damaged by the flows of water not flowing under the arches but flowing against the stone pillars.  EA officers confirm that Devon County Council highways department are fully aware that the bridge is potentially at risk from the river flows changing direction.

    The EA will now monitor the situation each month to see how the flows and bank erosion are affected.
