• Having spoken with many Cranbrook residents over the past week or so, who tell me they're concerned about inconsistent access to their local GP service, which operates from the Younghayes Centre, I contacted Access Healthcare, which runs the service. They confirmed the following: Access Healthcare has given notice on its contract which will cease on 31 March 2020 The reason is because the premises are unsuitable and cannot cater for the increasing numbers of patients that will need to register in the town. Currently around 3500 of the 6500 residents at Cranbrook are registered [...]

As many people are aware, there are plans to relocate Tipton St John Primary School from its present location to a new site close to The Kings School in Ottery St Mary. Tipton St John School has experienced many threatened and actual flood events over the years. Teachers are on tenterhooks during heavy rain in case they need to evacuate the children to the upper site, across the road. Worryingly, the Environment Agency (EA) has determined that there is a risk to life associated with the school remaining in its present location, which is in Flood Zone 3 - the highest risk. [...]

Our press release, just issued... The organisation behind a Remain alliance has backed independent candidate Claire Wright as its preferred general election candidate in East Devon despite rival parties failing to agree a truce in the seat.   Unite to Remain last week identified 60 seats where a deal had been struck between the Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and the Green Party, in a move to defeat Conservative candidates.   The non-party campaign group has revealed that it also proposed Claire Wright – and whose 21,000 votes in 2017 make her the clear challenger to [...]

My manifesto is now live on this website! It has been a work in progress since 2014 when I visited each town centre business in the constituency over a six month period, as well as holding events in each village and town. This manifesto is an updated version of the 2015 and 2017 versions. At the start of 2019 we carried out another survey, this time online. In total around 1000 people probably contributed to the surveys. As a local councillor of 10 years who spends a lot of time in the communities I represent, I am confident that my manifesto pledges reflect the views of local [...]

My team organised a really wonderful launch on Saturday, attended by Martin Bell, former BBC war reporter and Independent MP, elected amid a storm of controversy for Tatton in 1997. He ousted Conservative incumbent, Neil Hamilton, who was embroiled in a cash for questions scandal. It was amazing to have Martin there and he gave a rousing speech where he said he thought I would win, that I was a community champion and that I had integrity. Around 100 people were brought together in just two days, following the announcement of the election. It was a wonderful atmosphere, full of [...]
