Devon County Council to close all except two of its residential homes

By |2014-06-16T22:51:00+00:00June 16th, 2014|News|

Devon County Council announced plans today to shut all of its residential care homes, except two.

As well as 17 day centres.

The news comes as the council’s political leaders write to central government requesting a halt to the swingeing cuts.

Next year, and the year after, will see £50m and £24m respectively, being slashed from Devon’s budgets and is likely to result in widespread hardship, as residents are left to pick up the pieces.

Here’s Devon County Council’s press release ......

By |2014-06-14T22:00:00+00:00June 14th, 2014|News|

Health service managers have suggested that three of the five community hospitals in eastern East Devon could lose their in-patient beds.

The report below (by Cllr Roger Giles who attended EDDC’s overview and scrutiny cttee meeting last Thursday) comes ahead of Monday’s (16 June) Devon County Council health and wellbeing scrutiny committee meeting (of which I am a member) which will also consider these proposals.

East Devon young people:  Youth centre part reprieve welcome but concerns remain

By |2014-06-04T21:35:00+00:00June 4th, 2014|News|

East Devon’s youth parliament member, George Downs, has released a statement on behalf of young campaigners in Devon, welcoming Devon County Council’s announcement today, that it will retain some youth centres across the county.

It follows a brilliant and very determined campaign by Devon teenagers who fought passionately to retain the centres.  I am quite sure that without their campaign, we would be looking every Devon centre being closed.

In East Devon, the revised proposals will see Exmouth’s youth centre retained, but the other four, including Ottery’s centre, will close - at least in its current form.
