• All council appointments are ratified at this meeting. It was unclear why this omission happened and I was a bit fatalistic about it realising that despite my best efforts I could end up taking part of the blame for a horrendous final document. Cllrs Roger Giles and Trevor Cope (leader of the Independents) followed it up on my behalf and replaced Geoff’s name with mine, based on the fact I have a significant interest in the LDF. On the evening of the Annual Council Meeting on Wednesday (25 May), this move was met with opposition by Tory whip, Phil Twiss who claimed I was ineligible for the [...]

Around 20 tyres were found in Blind Lane, opposite the pub in the village. I have reported the illegal fly-tipping incident to Streetscene, East Devon District Council’s clean up service.  It is one of several instances of fly-tipping since the rural skip was removed from the Land of Canaan Car Park, as well as the decision by Devon County Council to introduce charges at Woods Farm Recyling Centre. Streetscene have assured me that they are keeping an eye on the fly-tipping situation which will help establish whether the above moves have really served to save money after all.

Sara Randall Johnson, EDDC’s Leader of 10 years and Ottery St Mary Rural’s councillor for 20 years, lost her seat.  Tony Howard, her fellow Conservative running mate, who was elected with 822 votes, will also serve residents living in Ottery St Mary Rural ward. The turnout in the Ottery St Mary Rural Ward was spectacularly high (the highest in East Devon at 62.3 per cent) a testimony to how interested residents are in local issues that affect them, and they can influence. I would like to thank each and every person who voted for me, for showing such faith and trust in [...]

Dear Mrs Wright I’m sorry we were out when you called recently. I have been a life-long Conservative voter at local and general elections since getting the vote at 18 - I am now 81. However, I have been very impressed by your efforts with regard to the LDF and shall be voting for you on May 5th. My exasperation with EDDC (Tory controlled!) reached boiling point this week when I received a flyer from Sara Randall Johnson and Tony Howard telling me that the Conservatives will ‘protect East Devon from over-development’!!! How hypocritical can you get! Yours faithfully
