• 130 houses at Ottery rejected by EDDC

  • I am delighted to be able to tell you that the Redrow Homes planning application for 130 homes east of Butts Road has been refused planning permission.

The planning application had been due to go before the EDDC Development Management Committee for decision on 8 May.  In fact a report was included in the draft agenda for the 8 May meeting, but at the Chairman’s briefing meeting earlier this week, the Chairman decided that the application should be refused under delegated powers.

The reasons for refusal include: an unallocated site in the open countryside; contrary to EDDC development strategy; there is a sufficient 5 year housing supply; the loss of high quality (grade 2) agricultural land.  If you want to see the full decision notice please email (or ring me).

Congratulations to everyone who worked to refuse this inappropriate planning application: to all those people who packed the Ottery St Mary Town Council meeting at Ottery Football Club, to everyone who made a response to EDDC, and especially to the campaign group who worked so hard on it.  Well done everyone.  Let us hope that the campaign against a quarry at Straitgate Farm will have a similar outcome.
